Lucia Neagu
I am a native of Romania. For many years I have come to the United States to visit my son and daughter, both of whom are successful professionals in the computer industry. It is a blessing for me to be very close physically and spiritually to my children, grandchild and their families. I am much attached to my grandson especially.
My husband passed away three years ago and since there were no other close relatives living in Romania, my children tried hard to find a way to have me live close to them which would make me happy for the rest of my life. I am glad to say that they have succeeded. I am now living here permanently.
I earned a graduate degree in Applied Art in my days as a student. However with children to raise and a job to hold down, I found no time for artistic activities. I always missed being able to pursue my passion for art and hoped that late in my life there would come a time when I would be able to open up my almost forgotten treasure box of feelings and sensitivity, and express myself as an artist.
Two years ago, after 45 years of "compulsory rest" from the artistic field, I bought myself paper and watercolors, and started to paint. I signed up for Open Studio and joined MIVAL. It was such a pleasure to discover the beautiful colors of today, the wonderful paper available now and the magic thrill of the painting process which connects together in one expression the mind, the soul, the hand and the palette.
For me it is the beginning of a long journey, and I am looking forward to all of the excitement, discoveries, surprises, disappointments and most of all – hard work. It is a journey of intense learning about life and the world around me. At the same time it is a journey of learning more about me. What a joy!
It is hard to predict what next year will bring to me. What I surely know is that I will continue to paint, discover and learn, and when I am ready, I will move to more personal expression in acrylics and oils.
